I’d given myself a target of one post a week not because I don’t have the recipes (I have 1000’s in a drawer waiting to be cooked) or the fact that I don’t get time to cook (I cook everyday. If I don’t cook at work I’m always cooking at home) but for the simple reason I just didn’t know what I was doing.
Along the way I’ve learnt a
little lot (At the begin I knew nothing so I’m in a better place) so post 51 is a look back at my favourites from the first 50 posts.
Its been great sharing my first 50 recipes. I’ve tried to show a cross section of some of the dishes I like to cook via my posts. So if you are new to my blog here’s 10 great recipes for you and if you’ve been with me since day one here’s a chance to see 10 of my favourite recipes.
1. If You Learn Only One Recipe: Tomato Sauce. http://wp.me/p4yOty-j
I couldn’t do a look back at my first 50 post with out having the first ever blog post at number 1. When I look back now I cringe at the writing but that doesn’t mean the recipe isn’t any good.
Once you have learnt how to make a tomato sauce you can then go on to make 100’s of other sauces. Midweek pasta you know how to make a sauce, pizza for the kids add your home made sauce add herbs to it and you have a sauce for a dinner party.
2. Not All Coffee Is Made Equal: Iced Coffee. http://wp.me/p4yOty-70
People who know me know I’m a coffee snob and I love my coffee. This post was all about me branching out from my regular strong black Americano when I bought a Nespresso machine.
I’m still drinking my black Americano but after experimenting with iced coffee I’ll certainly be looking forward to the summer months and drinking iced coffee.
3. Apples with Apples: The Perfect Burger. http://wp.me/p4yOty-5N
This recipe makes my top 10 for the simple reason I love burgers and if you love burgers knowing how to make them yourselves takes them from a unhealthy fast food to a nice meal and if you’re going to take the time to make your own burgers why not finish them with home made burger buns.
And yes before you think I made a mistake I do put custard powder in my burger buns.
4. This Recipe Will Self- Destruct In 5 Seconds: Sticky Toffee Pudding. http://wp.me/p4yOty-81
I still can’t believe I put this recipe on the blog. This was my secret weapon. Every time somebody asked me for the recipe I’d change the subject so I didn’t have to give it to them and now its published for the whole world to see.
This sticky toffee pudding is so light and with the addition of dates you could class it as one of your 5 a day.
5. Quick Recipe: Bean & Corn Salad. http://wp.me/p4yOty-9W
Quick, easy, healthy and my partners favourite lunch so this had to make the top 10
6. I’m Feeling Supersonic, Give me Gin & Tonic. Gin & Tonic. http://wp.me/p4yOty-4x
If I’m not drinking coffee I’m drinking gin.
This recipes takes the already perfect drink to new high with the addition of Gin & Tonic ice to top off your drink.
7. You Can’t Kid A Kidder: Fruit & Nut Ring. http://wp.me/p4yOty-8lI
Sometimes you just have to go with what you know and what others don’t know.
If you’re looking for a cake to impress your friends and can’t find one. Do what I do and make it up.
8. Roll on the Winter: Roast Chicken. http://wp.me/p4yOty-59
I made the mistake of making this winters dish on one of the hottest days of the year. To me it doesn’t matter if it’s hot or freezing cold you can’t beat a roast dinner on a Sunday.
Once you have mastered the roast dinner it is a fantastic dish to impress your friends, family & loved ones.
9. How to: Butternut Squash & Pepper Risotto. http://wp.me/p4yOty-64
This was my first how to.
Risotto is a great dish to know how to cook. Once you have learnt how to make risotto you can add anything that you like.
10. Merci Beacoup France: Fruit Buns. http://wp.me/p4yOty-4V
Cake, Cake and more cake.
We all love cake and in this recipe I make one of my favourite cakes, They are buns but buns are cake aren’t they?
It would be wrong to do a best of and not include a recipe titled Elevenses.
11. Elevenses: Fruit & Nut Granola. http://wp.me/p4yOty-2I
Fruit, nut, oats & honey.
What else do you need to know?
