I Hate (Food) Porn: Raspberry & White Chocolate Muffins

IMG_4517Shakespeare once wrote

“All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players.
They have their exits and their entrances,”

Fast forward a few hundred years and I think Shakespeare would see the world differently. He might have even penned something along the lines;

“All the worlds cooking,
And all the men and women are merely critics.
They have their cameras, their opinions and the internet.”

Until A few months ago I had never heard of the phrase “food porn”. Being an inquisitive person I was keen to find out what this term meant, but if the truth be know I was too scared to google foodporn (have you ever typed something innocent in to google only to get a rude search back?).

After finally working up the courage to google it I found out that found porn isn’t as glamourise as it sounds. Foodporn is about styling and taking of photos that glamourise food in a provocatively way. In the end it’s all boils (sorry about the pun) down to the photos.

Fast forward a few months and I have my very own food blog . Along with my blog I also have an account for Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Google+ and Instagram (all  accounts are called custardorcream). Why do I have an account with every social media know to pubescent teens? Because it’s all about the foodporn and foodporn = blog followers.

Google foodporn and you will find any number of sites showing tantalising food photos: Food Gawker. FoodEpix, Tastespotting and Food Porn Daily.

After a few blog post and still pretty naive I decided to send off one of my photos  to a foodporn site. So you can imagine how ecstatic I was when I awoke to check my blog stats (this is the first thing I do in the mornings) and my views had gone through the roof (we’re not talking 1000s but better than normal).

100% (1 out of 1 is still 100%) of my sent photos where posted on Tastespotting. After my triumph I sat in front of my PC firing off all my my blog photos. After 7 straight days of waking to see no great improvements on my stats I looked a little deeper. REJECTED – every single one of my photos were rejected for one reason or another (who decides on what’s good and what’s not?).

Nobody like rejections so I set about making amendments to the way I shoot my photos, a little tweak here, a table cloth there but in the end I didn’t like the way the photos looked (plus the food went cold).

So will I be sending this photo of to be judged? No because “foods for eating not styling”
